Importance of Dhanteras
Dhanteras, the festival that comes two days before diwali, is
celebrated on the trayodasi day of the krishna paksha of kartik month. Kuber, the
god of wealth, is worshiped on this day and a lamp is installed for him in the
temple.
A lamp is also lit for yamraj, the god of death, but after
eating everyone's food in the house, the housewives of the house before
sleeping light this lamp outside the house and go to sleep.
It is believed that the lamp of dhanteras is lit inside the
house for kuber and outside the house for yamraj at the door.
Dhanvantari's incarnation took place on this day. At that
time both the gods and the demons together were churning in the middle of the
ocean. On the day dhanvantari who is considered to be part incarnation of
vishnu. As a great physician, he was incarnated for health benefits. That day
was also on the day of trayodasi of krishna paksha of kartik month.
According to the story described in the scriptures, the
incarnation of dhanvantari who appeared with an urn is considered important for
healthy gains. Amrit kalash in which the boon of immortality was proven. In the
thirteenth year of the churning of the ocean as the last gem, dhanvanti was
incarnated with the nectar urn.
The churning of the ocean took place by making the
mandarachal mountain a churn. Whose kurma avatar was installed on the tortoise
of mandarachal mountain. In samudra manthan, sheshnag was churned through
vasuki. It is said that the churning of the ocean lasted for 13
years.
For good luck and prosperity, buying silver or metal items
on the day of dhanteras brings good luck and is beneficial.
